Five years under Dhoni

When India won the 2011 ODI, cricketing world was in full praise of Dhoni. The Ranchi boy was termed as the best captain India ever had. His 91-runs not-out against Sri Lanka sailed India to win, making him the Man of the Match. India thus once again lifted the World Cup since 1983. In his five years of captaincy, the nation bagged two world cup, but also faced many serial failures. Aside from ups and downs, India now holds the second place internationally.

Enter the lad with long locks
While playing for Jharkhand in the domestic cricket, Dhoni forayed into the national team in 2004. In the following year, his 148 runs and his 183 not-out against Pakistan and Sri-lanka respectively took him to the center stage. Many others popped up and disapeared since then, but Dhoni still continues as the wicket keeper-batsman.
When South Africa hosted Twenty20 World Cup in 2007, the authorities in India went in for an experiment, and inducted Dhoni as the team's captain. HE led the team to a stunning victory topping Pakistan in the final on 24 September. Soon Rahul David in 2007. In the following year 'test captain' Anil Kumble also gave way.

His heydays
Dhoni's time could be summed up as the golden times of Indian cricket. Despite many humiliating fails, his captaincy boosted the team a lot. And the team ranked top in test cricket for a long while. India also made good in foreign grounds Australia. And he is the only captain to gift the team with victories in all three formats of the play.
The team won 19 out of the 39 tests played under his leadership, while ten games ended in failure and tie each. And as for ODI, the team won 67 out of 119 matches, losing 41. Three matches ended in tie and eight matches were relinqiished. In Twenty20, India won 13 out of 29 matches. But the team tasted failure in 14 matches, one ended in a tie and other was relinquished.
The team marched to victory under Dhoni at the Australian CommonWealth Bank series and Border Gavaskar trophy match. India's 2011 World Cup owes much to Dhoni's batting skills. But in the following world tour to England and Australia the team bit the dust. Then there was a cry for his blood but Dhoni again put the team back in form.
